Background and objective / topic of the student research project or thesis:

Gebrüder Dorfner supplies functional fillers and colored quartz worldwide for the production of thermoset quartz composites. These materials are produced using a special mixing process in which fillers, additives and industrial resins are combined and then poured into molds by an extruder and cured there. After curing, the quartz composites are demolded and then post-processed. The aim of the study is to further increase the scratch resistance of our quartz composites through targeted optimization.

Your tasks may include the following areas, among others:

• Research into improving the scratch resistance of thermosetting polyester resins
• Definition of influencing parameters and implementation of test series on a laboratory scale
• Mechanical tests according to DIN EN 13310
• Verification of the results on a pilot plant possible
• Recording data and process parameters, evaluating the results and creating a report
